An important component of Christian Ministry is working with and understanding communities.  As a Community of Faith, we are compelled to respond to the challenges and needs in our local communities.  The Community Development and Theology course is therefore aimed at equipping the learner with theoretical knowledge as well as practical skills that are necessary for working with communities.  The theoretical component of this course is designed to help the learner to understand the foundational principles of the development process, and then progress into further concepts within the development discussion. It helps them to recognize the importance of their involvement in the development process.

It will explore issues of development and what this means for church leaders working in local congregations.  In the first half of the course, definitions, terminologies and key concepts within the broader development discussion will be explored.  It will also investigate with the nature of development practice as it relates to specific issues such as poverty, inequality, health, the environment and gender.  The second half of the course will focus on principles of church leadership and the role of the church in the development processes.  It will offer development theory and will conclude with allowing students the opportunity to discuss/understand their role in the development process.  This course will also create space for theological reflection on the development concept.
